Please note:BS 9999:2017 Annex I – Routine inspection and maintenance of fire safety installations states: ‘In addition to the checks recommended (daily, weekly and monthly), the actuation of all smoke control systems should be simulated once every three months. All zones should be separately tested and it should be ensured that any fans and powered exhaust ventilators operate correctly, smoke dampers close (or open in some systems), etc.
Therefore, please refer to the premises fire risk assessment to decide if further checks are required by RES or if instruction to a third party should be provided to carry out the additional recommended checks.
If the smoke ventilation system also comprises of a pressurisation fan and air extraction units, they will require maintaining by a specialist contractor / service agent to the manufacturers or the installation designers recommendations to relevant parts of BS EN 12101 for smoke and heat control systems.
